Yuugao is a young women that features in the early 11th century Japanese novel Genji Monogatari She had a brief love affair with prince Genji which led to her being murdered by the evil spirit of one of prince Genji’s scorned female lovers. In this print, she appears as a traditional Japanese ghost and the artwork is inspired by a famous print by Edo Period ukiyo-e artist Tsukioka Yoshitoshi To see a another print in the same series by Senju, please go here
This is a beautiful limited edition of 50 copies in each size is printed on 230 gsm high-quality matte paper. Each numbered print is signed by the artist and stamped on the back with the artist’s red seal (hanko). A hanko is hand carved and unique and therefore assures the authenticity of the print.
