Klimt meets Senju.
Klimt / Shunga / Senju
Gustav Klimt remains one of the main artistic inspirations for Senju's shunga work. Klimt's art was heavily influenced by the Japanese woodblock prints, paintings and other art objects that exploded onto the European art scene during the latter half of the 1800s. Japan had been closed to foreign visitors for nearly 250 years, and the unique forms of art it had developed and nurtured during this time of isolation sparked a revolution in European art. Young artists rebelled against the old institutionalized way of creating art.
