two cranes/ chrysanthemum
“Tsuru to kiku” is the first in a series of prints by Anna Maia, featuring birds, traditional Japanese patterns and objects. Japanese mythology says that the crane lives to be 1000 years old. This bird is therefore a symbol of longevity and wisdom. Due to the monogamy of this animal, it also stands for bringing longevity and happiness in marriage. This motif gained widespread popularity during Japan’s Edo period For more beautiful crane art, go here
