“Sentaku” (laundry)

The contemporary Shunga paintings of Senju explores human sensuality and sexuality.

Shunga/ kimono / erotic art /

Shunga and kimono are closely intertwined. In old Japan, where Christianity had not turned the human body undressed into a sinful concept, rich fabrics covering skin was regarded as highly erotic. The kimono was also used as a way to divide up the image, making it easier to navigate the sometimes very busy compositions. In “Sentaku” the laundry of kimono acts as both pretext and background for this highly erotic scene painted by Senju.

Printed onĀ  heavy matt high quality paper. Signed and numbered limited edition of 50 copies in each size. Each individual print is stamped with the artist’s personal read seal (hanko).

Senju’s art is rooted deeply in traditional Japanese art, especially the erotic and sensual world of Shunga.
