$29 – $149
The contemporary Shunga paintings of Senju explores human sensuality and sexuality.
"Momijigari"
Based on the legend of a high ranking warrior hunting in the mountains when he suddenly happens upon a beautiful noble woman and her entourage. The man is invited for drinks of sake and as the autumn afternoon moves on he becomes drowsy from the alcohol and the warm sun. The beautiful woman begins to dance for him and he feels that he is drifting slowly away into daydreams and sleepiness. Suddenly, he catches a glimpse of the woman in the reflection on the surface of the sake in his cup. This reveals her as a demon of the mountain in disguise, trying to seduce him. The warrior manages to escape.
In this painting the Hannya Noh theatre mask represents the demon and the Harigata, edo period dildo, represents the warrior in distress.
Printed onĀ heavy matt high quality paper. Signed and numbered limited edition of 50 copies in each size. Each individual print is stamped with the artist's personal read seal (hanko).
Senju's art is rooted deeply in traditional Japanese art, especially the erotic and sensual world of Shunga.
